An aged roof terrace provided the opportunity for a reconsideration of the space as an outdoor place to relax and chill. The project´s approach was to develop the substance out of the necessities of a new roof membrane protected from the sun and the feet of the client by a wooden deck. At the edge of the roof facing the neighbor the wooden deck continues to evolve into a latticed wall which progresses into a cantilevering roof canopy. The wood is thermally modified beech which in the wall and the canopy part is supported by zinc coated steel profiles which over time will match the color of the uncoated grayed wood. The structure with thinned out members and created voids is inspired by the tectonic and thermal methodology of tree tops and birds wings. Covered on top with a sheet of Plexiglas the intervention provides a pleasant place in the half shade and in the warm summer rain for relaxing moments of decompression.
